Transport
The coronavirus pandemic has meant we’ve had to make changes to the way we operate and the services we provide. We have been able to help a number of people get to urgent hospital appointments where they have been unable to access any other transport. This was done following social distancing guidelines on our vehicles. If you have issues with getting to medical appointments we might be able to help so do get in touch.
Adapt (NE) has operated a successful community transport scheme since 1991, with a fleet of eight vehicles, all of which are fully wheelchair accessible.
Our community transport scheme was developed for use by people who are disadvantaged or isolated through disability or through location in a rural community.
Those eligible to access this scheme include:
- Disabled people
- Elderly people
- Single women or women who live alone
- Children and young adults
- People receiving certain benefits
- Those who are geographically isolated
Please get in touch if you are not sure of your eligibility.
We provide vehicles with up to 16 passenger seats with or without a driver for community groups and members for outings, plus we deliver home-to-school contracts and some scheduled rural bus routes (under a Section 22 permit) on behalf of Northumberland County Council.
Membership is required to use the scheme but costs just £4.00 per year for an individual. Read more about memberships here.
