Coffee Thursday

,

Are you feeling fed up, stressed, worried or overwhelmed?

If you feel it would help to talk to someone in a non-judgemental, safe space, then Coffee Thursday might be just what you need. Coffee Thursday is a free, monthly pop-in coffee morning, where you can take time out for a cuppa and a biscuit and have a chat, when you’re having a tough time. Health Trainer Donna will be there to meet you at this pop in coffee morning, where you can stay for as long or as little time as you like.

It can really help to say things out loud and get them off your chest, and Donna will be there to listen and give support and information on lots of issues that can get us down – health, money, relationships – or point you in the direction of someone who can.

Not sure it’s for you? Call in and see what you think. Everyone is welcome at this free monthly pop-in coffee morning. Starts Thursday 7 November, 10.30am to 12.30pm, in the Resource Room, next to Cafe @ Burn Lane.

Coffee Thursday is no longer running.

Hexham sings big

,

We hosted our own ‘Big Sing’ on 26 September, as part of BBC Music Day. The theme this year was music and wellbeing – the power of music to inspire, bring us together and make a positive impact. People all over Northumberland got together to sing ‘Hey Jude’ by The Beatles, at the same time; you can see the fantastic results of everyone’s efforts here in the compilation film. If you were one of the many wonderful people who came along and joined in – thank you – you were all amazing.

The Big Sing

,

We’ll be holding our own ‘Big Sing’ at Cafe @ Burn Lane on BBC Music Day, Thursday 26 September. Music Day is the UK wide, annual celebration of the power of music to change lives, with over a thousand events across the UK and broadcasts on TV, radio and digital. The theme this year is music and wellbeing; the power of music to inspire, bring us together and make a positive impact.

The plan for The Big Sing in Northumberland is to get as many people, groups, organisations and places singing the same song at the same time: 11.00am on Thursday.

As part of this initiative, BBC Music Day will be launching an ambitious project, to help bring music to everyone living with dementia by 2020. September is also World Alzheimer’s Month, with World Alzheimer’s Day being on 21st September each year.

We invite you to join us at 10.45am, ready for The Big Sing at 11.00am. The chosen song is Hey Jude and we will provide the words and accompanying music. It would be great to have your support – everyone is welcome! Please note we will be filming this event.

Healthwatch Northumberland Conference

,

The Healthwatch Northumberland Conference 2019 is at The Phoenix Theatre in Blyth on Wednesday 16 October. Healthwatch Northumberland is the independent champion for people who use NHS and social care services. The Conference will include listening workshops, films and guest speakers on the areas of health and social care people in Northumberland said were most important to them – mental health, GP services, access to services and dementia. The event is free and there’ll be an ‘information buffet’ providing information on local health and support services, a free raffle, plus lunch and refreshments will be provided. This is your chance to share your experiences with those that provide them and find out what’s available locally.

A free bus will be available from Hexham – please call the team to book: 03332 408468.

Come and join in the community conversation about your local health and social care services.

Workshops and talks include:

Health Checks – why aren’t more people taking up these

Substance Misuse  – assessing local needs

Primary Care Networks – more about how GP surgeries are working together

Patient Participation Groups – how to get more involved with your local surgery

Social Prescribing – how community-based services can help with health issues

A Space at the Table – Real life experiences of those caring for loved ones with dementia

Singing workshop – a fun feel-good session from a local group which runs sessions for those with memory loss
