Travelling with Confidence project Northumberland

Travelling with Confidence Northumberland

Travelling with Confidence is a project funded by the Mobility Foundation to help people with a learning disability and autistic people gain travel independence.

People who get involved can gain a travel training qualification to help them:

  • Build confidence using public transport (including buses, trains, Metro) and walking
  • Understand travel routes
  • Handle unexpected situations

Two levels of accredited training are available.

Training is free and participants receive a certificate when they complete their course.

We provide training in Northumberland and the project can also be accessed in Newcastle, South Shields, Gateshead, Cumbria, County Durham and Darlington.

How does it work?

Step 1: Get in touch and tell us about your travel goals

Step 2: Meet with your travel trainer and group for a planning session

Step 3: Attend group sessions and practice journeys with support over 6 – 12 weeks

Step 4: Travel independently and with more confidence!
