Advocacy Services Northumberland provided by Adapt (NE)
Our advocacy service works with people to enable them to be involved in decisions about their life, ensuring they understand their options, that their wishes are heard and their rights are upheld. We have been delivering advocacy services across Northumberland since 2014.
What is Advocacy
Advocacy in health and care is when a person supports another individual to have their views and wishes heard and their rights upheld.
An advocate is someone who can help you speak up about what is important to you.
An advocate can:
- listen to your views and concerns
- help you explore your options and rights
- provide information to help you make informed decisions
- help you contact relevant people, or contact them on your behalf
- accompany you and support you in meetings or appointments
An advocate will not:
- give you their personal opinion
- make decisions for you
- make judgements about you
