Travelling with Confidence<\/a> is a project funded by the Mobility Foundation to help people with a learning disability and autistic people gain travel independence.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here, Travelling with Confidence Project Worker and Travel Champion, Frank Lyford tells us about a recent trip with members of the Northern Butterflies<\/a> charity, based in Cramlington.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There\u2019s something special about going on a supported journey \u2014 the kind where travel, fun, and food all come together for a great day out. This trip began early in the morning, with everyone meeting at Northern Butterflies, full of excitement for the day ahead.<\/p>\n

We took the x10 bus to the Regent Centre in Gosforth.<\/p>\n

The bus ride was relaxed and cheerful, with friendly chats and laughter along the way. From there, we transferred onto the Metro, watching the scenery flash past the window. The rhythm of the rails added to the sense of adventure. The train was the final leg of the journey \u2014 quick, smooth, and easy to navigate thanks to good support and planning.<\/p>\n

When we arrived at our destination, Mulligans in Newcastle, it was time for something a bit different \u2013 crazy golf! Brightly painted courses, funny obstacles, and a bit of friendly competition made it a highlight of the day. Some holes were tricky, some hilarious, and everyone had a chance to shine, or laugh at their creative putting skills!<\/p>\n

After all the activity, it was time for food. We went to a nice place nearby called Wingstop to sit down together and share a tasty meal.<\/p>\n

By the time the group had finished the food it was time to head back to Cramlington, tired but happy. There was a real sense of achievement \u2014 not just from finishing the course, but from travelling independently with good support and confidence. It was a reminder that with planning, teamwork, and a spirit of adventure, even an ordinary journey can turn into an extraordinary day.<\/p>\n
